[Feature suggestion] Center multiple photos relative to page

Ungelesener Beitragvon Loek » 13.09.2013, 19:37

Betriebssystem: Windows
Versionsnummer: 5.0.4

Beschreibung:

I think a great addition for the next software version could be the possibility to center (vertically and/or horizontally) multiple images that are grouped together. So if one selects multiple photos (using Ctrl+Click for example), one can easily center these images using only a click on a dedicated button. Even better would be to attach shortkeys for these operations like Ctrl+Alt+V for vertical centering and Ctrl+Alt+H for horizontal centering. Often one is playing with the photos (like enlarging, moving etc.). At the end the photos are not centered anymore. This feature would then save a lot of time!

I have sketched the situation in the image below. I hope it makes sense :-).

Edit: Hmm, I'm not able to post the picture using the [ img] and [ /img] tags, I get the following error: 'It was not possible to determine the dimensions of the image'.

So here's a link to the image: http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3847 ... treren.jpg.

I'm sorry about the English, but I don't speak German unfortunately.

Maybe to clarify, I don't see the centering operation as permanent setting (in the sense that when after the centering one resizes one of the images vertically, the group of images is vertically centered again automatically). If one centers the images, and then resizes again, the group of images is not centered anymore and one has to press the 'Center vertically' button (or the short key) again to center the group of images. So it's just a simple feature to center a group of images on the page.

For vertical centering the feature would be useful for any type of paper. For horizontal centering though this is indeed different. Maybe there should be an option so that one can choose to horizontally center 1. with respect to only one page, or 2. with respect to the two pages (in this case the image could fall over the flat edge between the two pages).

Hello Loek,

You are already able to center at least two picutres on either the left or the right page of your book.
For example: you place two picutres randomly on your page.

2013-09-16_09h49_49.png
After you selected both picutres you can ope the context menu (right click) and choose the option "size, position and rotation" (Größe, Position und Rotation in the german screenshot).

2013-09-16_09h50_17.png
Now you are able to change the position of both images. What you need to do now is place the center on either a vertical or horizontal line. In both options you have the possibility to "in der Seitenmitte zentrieren (center in the page middle)".

2013-09-16_09h50_32.png
If you confirm this options with ok, both pictures will now be placed in the center of your page.

2013-09-16_09h51_04.png
But if you try to do this with maybe fours picutres you will end up with something like this... :(

The only good option here might be to work with an grid.

But I see that there could be an easier way to center your pictures (on one or even two pages).
I will talk to my colleges about the idea to integrate shortcuts or buttons. Further discussion will show, if we can provide this feature in a future software update.
Liebe Grüße
Sonja

Hello Sonja, thank you for your reply. Indeed, horizontal centering (along a vertical axis, like in your example) is not the biggest problem. It's mainly the vertical centering (so along a horizontal axis) that isn't possible currently (see the example in my first post of this topic). When choosing to center the two images vertically onto the page, they will overlap, see the example below.

Two images on the right page are not vertically centered:

before_vertical_centering.png
Before vertical centering
After vertically centering, the images overlap:

after_vertical_centering.png
After vertical centering
So it seems that the two images are not treated completely as a group, but still as two individual images. The idea is to vertically center the group so that the images do not overlap after the vertical centering operation. Ideally with some predefined buttons and shortcut keys for quick and easy operation.

Thank you for considering possible integration in one of the future versions of the software.

Hallo Sonja,
Hi Sonja,
good idea, but there are many restrictions (you also spoke about):
  • Works only for two images.
  • Centering using a horizontal axis is not possible (same distance on top and on the buttom)

All this could be solved if it were possible to join or group two or more pictures together. This can’t be too difficult, as most simple programmes offer that. Maybe a little Christmas present for the next release?

Hello Loek and Rotuma,

you are right. There are no options that work with bigger groups of images yet, because the pictures are not handled as a group.
I will bring your ideas and opinions in the discussion. If I get new Informations on this topic, I will provide them to you in this thread.

But I think that christmas is just around the corner. There only about 3 months left. Time flies...
Liebe Grüße
