Hi everyone,

I often look at this page https://www.cewe-community.com/global/? ... cale=de_DE to see the photobooks and to read the comments - they often are very constructive.

Now I have sent a photobook to the Danish page but Danish people don't write comments. Therefore I would like to ask you if you will take your time to comment my book - every comment positive/negative will be appreciated.

I like your stile: quiet simply but not simple. Also the layout is classic and mostly stringent.
I have some questions:
What's about the titel on the cover?
Why do you use sometimes a white box?


My advices:
Use "Hilfsraster" or "intelligente Hilfslinien": These tools help you to arrange the pictures, clip-arts and so on on the same line.
Don't write text in the binder (?) (the middle of the book).

First of all I would like to thank you for your comments.

Now I find out that the cover is not shown in the link. It is light brown as the whole book and says Portugal. I will try to send it (???)

I do not really like the White boxes but I am not sure what Else to do. What would you suggest?

The book is "lay flat", don't you think it is OK to write in the midle then?

Hi Lis,
on the first view your book looks very nice! I like it much, especially the white “shine” in the middle of the (double)pages.

On the second view I've looked more at the design and so I have some suggestions.
The first refers to the shadows. I think, they are not similar through the book. I like it, when they are similar - in width, direction and “strongness”. On some pages are small pictures, which are laying under another picture. Nevertheless they have a shadow at this side – in this way it’s not possible in reality
The “Panos”- or “Rotuma”-shadows on some pages are very fine .

My second suggestion refers to the page with the rhombuses (Rua do Poco Novo…). It looks very nice, but the space between the pictures seems not to be similar. And because of the shadows they look just more different. I wouldn't use shadows in this layout (even at the “Farvel”-rectangle at the end).
To get identical spaces, maybe my tutorial (I think you know it ) helps for your following projects. I’ve set the pictures directly together (respectively one half over another) and after finishing the layout, I decreased all pictures (together) to get the space.

But at the end, it is a very nice book. Thank you for showing it to us.

No, never.
And: why? You have plenty of space to make it readably.

I would rather make a little legend, the font-size in 8-10 pt. is enough, and place it under the picture.

Hi Lis,
I was just about to write more or less the same as Pitty. I can see your cover and I like it. On the first glance at your book I also quite liked it. But now I looked at every page and the non-alignment of the photos are the most prominent thing that hit my eyes. On one page you have four pictures of more or less the same size next to each other, but one stretches for a few mm into the right side. That doesn’t look good. Either have a photo centred over the two pages, or with a gap in the centre. Even though you choose the lay flat bookbinding it doesn’t look that nice. What I don’t like at all is the text written over two pages. It isn’t even in the centre, I would write it on the left page. I have never seen a book where the text runs to the right side of a book (sadly in the CEWE books we can find that a lot) Pittys toenails must have been curling when she saw that
I hope our words won’t stop you showing us your books.

Hi Pitty and Rotuma,

I am making a Photobook right now and I will (of course) follow your advices. Therefore I will ask you as follows:

When I write a little text (name of a town/place), I will write it on the left page (!!) as this ------- xxxxxx --------- and my question is if I shall write it before the Line begins or in the middle of the page?

Hope you understand my question!

And Pitty I cannot find out what it means when you write "a little legend"? Perhaps you could make a little example?

I guess Pitty means the caption underneath the photos. Your text seems to be bigger than the headline at the top of the page. I think if you write “Biblioteket ved universitet” it would be enough if it is your personal book. If you want to publish it, then maybe the word “postkort” in brackets explains it. You don’t have to explain that you didn’t take the picture yourself and used a postcard.
Regarding your headline with the name of the town, I would probably write it in line left, rather than in the centre, but there Pitty is our expert.

Me too. Start with the line, than the name exactly fitting to the picture, than continue the line. But have a look, that the lines are fitting together.
